ONE OF Wirral’s latest Chief Scout’s Gold Award Holders

David was recently presented with his Chief Scout’s Gold award by the Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside at Merseyside Police Headquarters. He joined a number of other award recipients from the Merseyside County at this special presentation evening. David achieved the Scout section’s top award through his ongoing Scouting work and by completing personal challenges involving  high levels of commitment, adventure and leadership skills.

The awards were presented by Alan Waterworth, in his role as both Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside and President of Merseyside County Scout Council. The Lord Lieutenant was accompanied by Rick Walker, County Commissioner and Steve Lewis, Assistant County Commissioner for Scouts.

David now faces the challenge of moving to the next section of Scouting, Explorer Scouts where he can start to work towards his next big award, the Chief Scout’s Diamond award.

Certificate of Meritorious Conduct

Scott has recently been awarded the Certificate of Meritorious Conduct by the Chief Scout. He received the award for his actions in co-ordinating resuscitation assistance when his grandfather collapsed with a heart attack earlier this year. Unfortunately, Scott’s grandfather passed away, but his courage continued as he supported his mother through this tough time and gave a reading at his grandfather’s funeral. Scott’s mother believes that it was his Scouting background that helped him in this time of need. “He knew what to do through the training he had received from Beavers to Scouts".

Scott really deserves this award and I hope he carries on his training when he moves on to Explorer Scouts in the near future as Scott will make an excellent leader in the years to come.

The award was presented the Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside, Alan Waterworth and the Chief Commissioner for England, Stuart Little, following a nomination  approved by the Chief Scout, George Purdy. The presentation took place at Merseyside Scout Headquarters in Liverpool City centre during the annual general meeting.

Scott is believed to be the only person in the County with this award which he is entitled to wear on his uniform for his entire Scouting career.

DISTRICT TAKES 2ND AT COUNTY GALA WITH HELP FROM 4TH

Birkenhead District came an overall 2nd place at the recent County Swimming Gala with help from members of the 4th Scouts in the team. Scott and Hannah were winners in two events each at the District Swimming Gala, which earned them a place in the District team taking part in the County Swimming Gala at Liverpool University Baths on 13th November.

Scott managed to take first place in the breast stroke and Hannah took second for her event.

BIG WIN AT DISTRICT SWIMMING GALA

Our Group managed to scoop many wins at the recent District Swimming Gala.

The Cubs were first at the event and they did very well coming in at 2nd place overall.

The Scouts were up next and managed to cause a real storm by winning 4 individual events and the over 12 ½ yr old Team Relay.

This led the Scouts to win the under 12 ½  and the over 12½ sections which meant the Scouts were the overall winners of the Scout Competition.

When the points from both Cub and Scout Competitions were added together, the 4th Birkenhead Scout Group were the District Swimming Gala Champions and walked away with the Brewster Challenge Shield.

TROOP WINS DISTRICT SCOUT CHALLENGE TROPHY

The 4th Scouts have become District champions by becoming the first winners of the District Scout Challenge Trophy.

The trophy is awarded at the annual District Scout Camp to the Troop who have accumulated the most points from District events throughout the year. Points are awarded for taking part as well as for placing in the top three for each event.
