THE SIGN, SALUTE AND HANDSHAKE
THE SCOUT SIGN The three fingers of the Scout Sign are reminders of the three parts of the Scout Promise. The sign is made at shoulder height with the right hand. The three middle fingers are used and the little finger is held down by the thumb. The Scout Sign is only used when making or reaffirming the Scout Promise.
THE SCOUT SALUTE The Scout Salute is made in the same way as the Scout Sign but is drawn to the head smartly. The Scout Salute is used during flag break, as a sign of respect to Leaders and other Scouts and when the being dismissed.
THE HANDSHAKE The left handshake is used as a sign of trust and friendship. This comes from when the Zulu Chief Dinizulu first met B-P. The Zulu Chief greeted B-P by laying down the protective shield he held in his left hand to shake hands with him showing he trusted his new friend. |
